LATEST SPORTS NEWS: Southern's Glenn Carson commits to Penn State for football
By MICHAEL MCGARRY
Published: Monday, September 29, 2008
Glenn Carson is headed to Penn State University to play football.

The Southern Regional High School senior linebacker and running back verbally committed to the school this weekend.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Carson is one of the state’s top college prospects. He had 19 scholarship offers and made official visits this fall to Notre Dame, Boston College and Penn State.

Rutgers, Stanford, Virginia and Syracuse also heavily recruited Carson.

Southern has had unprecedented success with Carson on the field. He led the Rams to eight wins and their playoff victory in school history last season with 66 tackles.

The Rams are 2-0 and No. 3 in The Press’ Elite 11 this season.

Carson is also one of the state’s top wrestlers. He was the state runner-up at 215 pounds last March.
