Letters/Egg Harbor Township maintenance law

Published: Tuesday, June 24, 2008

  New owners can

move elsewhere

Several letters from new residents have called for a property-maintenance ordinance in Egg Harbor Township. The aesthetics of the township offend their sensibilities. Too bad. They should have moved to a town more in keeping with their McMansions with chemical-laden, water-wasting lawns. Poisoning our water supply, wasting our precious water is what offends me. How about a law against that?

We do not need to pay yet another government employee to drive around harassing township residents. How does the condition of my fence or the height of my grass affect their lives one iota?

I wonder if any of these complainers have ever participated in Egg Harbor Township Community Pride Day. If they had, they would know that the trash on the roadsides is tossed out by ignorant motorists and poorly raised children. And we do have anti-littering laws, for all the good it does.

EHT needs

upkeep law

My ancestors were among the founding fathers in Egg Harbor Township, and I feel we are long overdue for a property-maintenance ordinance. My home, which is not in a new development, sits on a piece of wooded land; this does not give me the right to use it as a trash dump. By having no enforced ordinances, I unfortunately get the right to have neighbors with rusty old vehicles and discarded broken boats in their yards, tents and trailers being used as storage units and grass growing beyond hip high. Something has to change.

As a taxpayer in good-standing, I would like to see some enforcement on this issue. EHT homeowners, take some pride in your homes and clean up your yards.
