A Bader Field casino? Just think of the traffic mess

Published: Tuesday, September 30, 2008

I can't believe there is still any consideration of building a casino on Bader Field. It doesn't take a commission, paid at taxpayer expense, to explore the possibilities. All it takes is someone who knows the area to realize that this is an extremely stupid idea.

Anybody who drives down the Black Horse Pike in heavy traffic knows that the extra traffic a casino will bring will be a nightmare. The drawbridge on Albany Avenue, for starters, will have to go. Millions will have to be spent, and traffic will have to be diverted to build a wider and higher bridge to handle the extra traffic. All the existing houses and businesses along that area will no longer exist due to the fact that the bridge was widened and therefore the roads were widened. A new exit from the Atlantic City Expressway closer to the new casino would have to be built with at least two lanes each way. Also, since this new exit will be built over water, yet another bridge will have to be built.

A book could be written about all the traffic problems a new casino on Bader Field would bring and the millions that will have to be spent to ease the traffic problems.
