A collision at Route 30 and Third Avenue injured four people, with one driver ending up guarded in the hospital after he was revealed to be living in the country illegally, according to Galloway Township police.

Jose Antonio Medina-Chavez, 24, who lives in Waterford Township, was driving west on Route 30 when he struck a taxi driven by Farid Anowar, of Ventnor, police said. The taxi was in the turn around at Third Avenue, crossing over Route 30 to head east.

Anowar, 58, and his passenger, Sharon Golden, 38, of East Patchogue, N.Y., were injured and transported to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus in Galloway Township.

Medina-Chavez, 24, and his passenger, Isidro Barcenas, 26, of Hammonton, were taken to the Regional Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. Both suffered serious injuries and are listed in stable condition, police said.

An investigation revealed that Medina-Chavez is a Honduran living in the country illegally, police said. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and assault by automobile. Bail was set at $2500.
