Complaint moves Pleasantville sewage pump to Northfield

PLEASANTVILLE - A resident's complaint has moved a city sewage pump station into Northfield - at least for now.

City Council approved an ordinance Monday asking the county to approve an easement that would put a sanitary sewage pump station on the Northfield side of Dolphin Avenue.

The original plan had the station close to a Pleasantville home, Business Administrator Marvin Hopkins explained. The resident complained, and the city moved the station into the woods, where there are no homes. But that put the station into county-owned land in Northfield.

The Atlantic County Board of Chosen Freeholders now must approve the construction and the city must have a public reading on the ordinance. Until that happens, the city will move forward as the result of a resolution, also passed Monday by City Council.

The resolution gives the city - under a right of entry and indemnification agreement with the county - access to the tract to begin construction.

The cost of the project was not available Monday night.
