Apprenticeship classes set

Registered plumbing and electrical apprenticeship classes are scheduled to begin at the Cape May County Technical School District in September.

Registered apprenticeships programs are a demand-driven, nationally recognized, training model that offer employers a way to elevate the competencies of their workers and establish the standards of proficiency they need to compete. Apprentices who complete the program will earn nationally recognized and portable certificates from the United States Department of Labor, the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Apprenticeship completion is also a requirement to sit for the licensure exam for plumbing and may extend to other licensed occupations in the future.

Potential registered apprentices must be employed full-time in the trade and the employer must agree to provide on-the-job training sponsorship as outlined in the federally-approved work process. The Registered Plumber or Electrician Apprenticeship requires 8,000 hours (four years) of on-the-job training plus a minimum of 576 hours of related instruction classes over the four years of the program. The related instructions classes for these two programs will be held at the Technical School two nights per week in the fall and spring semesters.

Donor of year

Cape Classic Motorcycle Club was recently honored by United Way as Donor of the Year for donating the proceeds of a motorcycle raffle held during last year's Roar to the Shore. The contribution of $20,000 was the single greatest contribution the agency has ever received. The award was given at this year's Starfish Awards Ceremony which recognized outstanding volunteers.

Cape Classic Motorcycle Club is a Cape May County organization of motorcycle enthusiasts, who believe in giving back to the community. Throughout the year, they raise money at various events and donate the proceeds to local charities, needy families, and civic organizations. They sponsor a number of charity drives for local children and they host the annual Roar to the Shore motorcycle rallies, which is quickly becoming one of the largest in New Jersey. In the last few years attendance at the rally has grown from hundreds to thousands, bringing an economic boon for local business owners.
