Bridgeton man's murder unsolved after two months

BRIDGETON - It's been two months since a 31-year-old father of four was gunned down outside his home here, and while city police have not made any arrests, they believe they are close to catching Reynaldo Sanchez's killer.

Lt. Michael Gaimari said Wednesday that detectives have made some progress in the case.

"There's nothing we can release right now," he said. "We believe it was somebody who was familiar with the victim. We don't believe robbery was the motive. We don't believe there's a random killer out there."

Sanchez, a native of the Mexican city of Cuautla in the state of Morelos, was shot several times before dawn May 16 after he went outside to warm up his car before heading to work at a Gloucester County food-processing plant. He was buried in his native country June 2.

In the days following his murder, police quietly acknowledged frustration that leads were not immediately forthcoming. In the weeks since, however, breaks in the case have given detectives several lines of inquiry to follow, police say.

"We have a couple of different angles we're pursuing," Gaimari said. "It's not at a standstill by any means."
