8:10 p.m. update: Bookstore, cafe join together to survive in Bridgeton
By JOHN MARTINS

BRIDGETON — At a time when businesses everywhere seem to be bailing out, there are two in this city that are responding to the tough economic climate by joining together instead. Beginning Oct. 7, independent bookstore Sherlock’s Tomes will be occupying a former dining room of the Beatles-themed restaurant S.R. Riley’s Musical Cafe, which is operated by Millville resident Sandi Riley on East Commerce Street in Bridgeton’s historic downtown. To Linda Durkin Richardson, who runs the 2-year-old bookshop with her partner, Jim Chiappardi, the move — which will occupy a little less than 500 feet — makes perfect sense. See Wednesday’s edition for more details.
