MONROE TOWNSHIP - Aggravated assault charges have been filed against a Gloucester County man accused of fatally beating an acquaintance.

Gloucester County prosecutors filed the charge against 50-year-old Thomas Johnson, of Williamstown, following the death of Mario Cincerella.

Cincerella, 42, of Williamstown, attended the Pleasantville school system and formerly lived in Galloway Township. He was injured in a July 29 brawl with Johnson at the Williamstown American Legion Hall, prosecutors said.

Both men were members of the legion hall's billiards club. Authorities said they had argued there, apparently over an outstanding debt.

Johnson is accused of punching and kicking Cincerella, causing head injuries.

A friend later found Cincerella unconscious and called police.

Cincerella was taken to a hospital and put on life support, but he was pronounced dead Thursday. A cause of death has not been determined.
