The area’s large franchisee of Dunkin’ Donuts stores this month opened its latest high-profile location, on South Shore Road (Route 9) in the Marmora section of Upper Township.

The store, a completely renovated building formerly occupied by a Wendy’s restaurant, features a drive-through for faster service, as well as a warmer interior look, improved lighting and more comfortable seating.

“We are proud to serve the hard-working people of Upper Township and hope to become a popular destination and an everyday routine for guests looking for high-quality coffee, baked goods and snacks delivered fast in a friendly environment and at an affordable price,” store owner Arun Mandi said in a statement.

The Marmora location is one of 23 Dunkin’ Donuts owned by Mandi and his ARF Corp., 18 of which are located within Atlantic County.

Mandi earned a master’s degree in computer engineering, but then decided that a career in that field was not for him.

Instead he was drawn to the quick-serve restaurant industry, where he started at the store level, learning the business thoroughly, and then oversaw the buildup of Dunkin’ Donuts chains for two other franchisees. He also got a second master’s degree, in business administration.

A little more than a decade ago, he started building up his own franchise chain, acquiring six Dunkin’ Donuts in Atlantic County and then rapidly expanding.

ARF Corp. has been upgrading the appearance and functionality — especially by adding drive-throughs — of its Dunkin’ Donuts stores the past few years, investing close to $15 million in the Atlantic County locations alone.

Mandi also has been acquiring choice locations for his stores, and the Marmora location is a perfect example, at the intersection of two high-traffic roads: Route 9 and Roosevelt Boulevard.

The Marmora Dunkin’ Donuts celebrated earlier this month with prize giveaways, photos with Dunkin’ Donuts mascots and vouchers for a free coffee each week for a year to the first 100 guests. As part of opening, the firm gave $5,000 to Ocean City New Jersey Care to help residents affected by Hurricane Sandy.

The new restaurant offers Dunkin’ Donuts favorites 18 hours a day, including fresh doughnuts, hot and iced coffee, and lattes and cappuccinos, as well as new menu items such as Bakery Sandwiches.

The Marmora Dunkin’ Donuts is open daily from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.
