The chief of the Cape May County freeholders will offer a look at the state of the county at a chamber meeting Tuesday in Cape May Court House.

Freeholder Director Gerry Thornton is the guest speaker at the business meeting of the Cape May County Chamber of Commerce, to be held at Avalon Links Restaurant.

“Each March, the chamber hosts a ‘State of the County’ update and we are delighted to have Freeholder Director Thornton as our speaker with a state of the county address,” said Vicki Clark, president of the chamber.

Among issues is an increase in the county tax rate, which will cost the average residential taxpayer another $60 a year. Decreasing property values and increasing medical insurance costs have been blamed for the about 6 percent tax increase. The county tax bill for the average property would increase by more than 6 percent to $1,039.

The luncheon, open to the public, will also hear about the recent legislative activities of the chamber.

Then, at a membership luncheon on March 28, Ann Fagotti, of Bollinger Insurance, will talk about what business people need to know about personal insurance.
