The Atlantic Cape Community College softball team earned its first victory in 19 years Thursday, defeating Camden County College 6-3 in the first game of a Region XIX doubleheader.
The program was reinstated this season after a two-year hiatus. The team also has missed a few other seasons throughout the past two decades.
Courtney Perkins was the winning pitcher. Holly Peacock and Danielle Kebert scored two runs apiece for Atlantic Cape in the win.
"It was phenomenal to see the girls put out every effort," Buccaneers coach Nick Graziano said. "They were able to pool their talents together and pull out a win in a tight game against Camden."
Graziano said school officials told him the school's last softball win came in 1994.
Camden won the second game 17-5. Atlantic Cape (1-6) travels to Bergen County for a doubleheader Saturday.
