PHILADELPHIA – Don Money stepped to the pitching mound at the Carpenter Cup with no reason to throw nothing but strikes Friday afternoon.

Money’s Tri-Cape all star team had 11-run lead.

And he had someplace to be. The Vineland High School senior graduated Friday night.

Money threw two, quick innings as Tri-Cape defeated SOL American/Continental 13-5 in a quarterfinal game at Ashburn Field in FDR Park. Tri-Cape, which consists of players from the Cape-Atlantic League and the Tri-County Conference, will play Lehigh Valley at 9:30 a.m. Monday in the semifinals at Citizens Bank Park.

Tri-Cape took control with eight runs in the top of the third inning to take an 11-0. Barry Buchowski of St. Augustine Prep knocked in three runs with a bases-loaded double. Robert Bunton of Buena Regional drove in two runs with a single, while Mike Elfreth of St. Augustine Prep contributed an RBI single.

The Carpenter Cup is a single-elimination all-star tournament features 16 teams from New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania.

The Phillies founded the tournament in 1986. Major League players Mike Piazza and Bobby Higginson have played in the event.

The final will be played Tuesday morning at Citizens Bank.
