Council President Anthony Fanucci said bids for the contract came in 45 days ago but were significantly higher than the city engineer estimated.

After a re-bid, South Jersey Sanitation was the lowest bidder again, coming in significantly lower the second time around, Fanucci said.

The company was awarded the $8,265,000 contract, which will be in effect until Dec. 31, 2018.
