Vineland City Council members held a special voting session during their workshop meeting Tuesday to determine which company would be awarded a contract for trash pickup in the city.
A temporary contract with South Jersey Sanitation Co. expired Monday, and council members voted to award the contract to the same company.
Council President Anthony Fanucci said bids for the contract came in 45 days ago but were significantly higher than the city engineer estimated.
After a re-bid, South Jersey Sanitation was the lowest bidder again, coming in significantly lower the second time around, Fanucci said.
The company was awarded the $8,265,000 contract, which will be in effect until Dec. 31, 2018.
