Coach Gene Allen is to Atlantic City High School boys basketball what Terry Francona was to the Boston Red Sox.

Both took teams noted for postseason disappointments and turned them into playoff winners.

(Note: The comparison to Francona will make Allen grimace. He's a big New York Yankees fan).

Before Allen took over the program, the Vikings won no state titles an just four South Jersey championships.

Atlantic City has won three state titles and five South Jersey championships, under Allen.

Allen took over the program in 2003 and has a career record of 224-70.
