GLASSBORO – Dayshawn Reynolds of Atlantic City scored two thrilling touchdowns Thursday night.

Reynolds caught touchdown passes of 69 and 61 yards but his Blue team lost to the White team 17-14 in the in the 23rd annual Adam Taliaferro All Star High School Football Classic at Rowan University.

Khalil Howard of Sterling scored the winning touchdown on a 4-yard run with 17 seconds left in the game.

“It was amazing,” Reynolds said. “This game was a lots of fun. It felt like a Friday night.”

The game featured many of the top recently graduated seniors in South Jersey. The Blue team consisted of players Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland and Burlington counties. The White team featured players from Gloucester, Camden and Salem counties.

Quarterback Rashon Sorrell of Millville threw both touchdown passes to Reynolds.

The first – a 69-yarder – gave the Blue team a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.

The second touchdown was the most talked about play of the game.

The Blue team had the ball at its own 39-yard line.

Sorrell scrambled out of the pocket. He rushed near the first-down marker, which was at the 49-yard line. Sorrell then reversed his field and ran backwards behind the line of scrimmage to his own 25-yard line.

He then lofted a pass to Reynolds, who was 10 yards away. Reynolds caught the ball, dodged a few tacklers and then sprinted untouched to the end zone to give the Blue team a 14-10 lead with 3:42 left in the game.

Many fans in the stands said they had never seen a play like that except maybe in a video game.

Even Sorrell couldn’t describe it.

“That play was just,” Sorrell, “I’m speechless.”

Reynolds just smiled and said “Lot’s of things went on on that play.”

But the lead did not hold up. The White team drove 66 yards for the winning score.

The all-star game started in 1991 but was named after Taliaferro in 2001. A 2000 graduate of Eastern High School in Voorhees, Taliaferro injured his neck making a tackle for Penn State University in 2000. Doctors feared he would never walk again. But he recovered and is now an attorney.

Thunderstorms delayed the start of the game for nearly an hour.
