Wanna find out how much money -- and how often -- Gov. Jon S. Corzine contributed for his failed re-election attempt?
Or how little his successor, Republican Chris Christie, spent out of pocket in comparison?
That information, along with a slew of other state and local political campaign contributions data, is now at your fingertips.
The New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission, or ELEC, recently unveiled a searchable database on its Web site,
that allows internet users to study the source and amount of state political campaign contributions.
The database is available under the blue 'search the database' tab on the left side of the ELEC home page. For some races, the database reaches back to 1981.
According to the database, Corzine started contributing to his re-election effort on Feb. 1, 2006, with a $100,000 contribution. Corzine made 59 personal contributions or loans to his primary and general election campaigns between 2006 and Sept. 21, 2009 -- spending $16.45 million.
Corzine's successor, Chris Christie, spent some of his own money, too. He and wife Mary Pat both made $3,400 contributions for his primary campaign on Jan. 20 -- and gave another $3,400 each for the general election race on June 17 ... spending a total of $13,600 in personal dollars.
At the time Christie made his donations, the former U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey listed his occupation as "unemployed." He'll soon be able to list his occupation as New Jersey's 55th governor.
