BARNEGAT - A 45-year-old New York man died Saturday night after he was hit by a car on Barnegat Boulevard North, police said.

In a press release, Police Lt. Keith Germain said Sunday that officers were called to Barnegat Boulevard North near Bengal Boulevard for a report of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle at 7:28 p.m. Saturday.

Police determined that Michael Lubrano, of Staten Island, was struck by a vehicle while he was on foot in the center southbound lane of Barnegat Boulevard.

Lubrano was pronounced dead at the scene, Germain said.

Police said it appears that Frank Fucci, 19, of Barnegat, who was driving a 2001 Ford Taurus, was approaching the Bengal Boulevard intersection and had a green light at the time.

Fucci's vehicle then hit Lubrano.

The southbound lanes of Barnegat Boulevard North in the area of the accident as well as Bengal Boulevard were closed to traffic for about two hours while the initial on-scene investigation was conducted.

There are no indications that alcohol was involved, Germain said.

The accident is being investigated by members of the Barnegat Police Traffic Safety Unit and Barnegat Police Investigative Division as well as the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office Fatal Accident Response Team.

No charges have been filed and no tickets have been issued as of Sunday morning, however, the accident remains under investigation, Germain said.
