An Atlantic City teen was arrested after he allegedly robbed three women at gunpoint — including his grandmother.
The women called police just after midnight Friday, saying they had been robbed on the first block of South Mansion Avenue, Sgt. Monica McMenamin said. They said they had gone to the residence to confront the 16-year-old boy about a previous theft — also from a family member.
“They went over there to do kind of an intervention to confront him about it, and things escalated,” McMenamin said.
He pulled the gun on the women, taking money from his grandmother. McMenamin was unsure if the other two women were also related to the suspect. The grandmother, whose name was not released, gave a description of the teen, including that he was riding a blue moped. She also told police places he may have gone.
Officers Innocenzo Visceglia and Frankie Lane found a youth matching his description riding a moped around one of those spots a short time later, McMenamin said.
They conducted a high-risk stop in the 800 block of Baltic Avenue, and arrested the teen after he was positively identified.
The boy, whose name is not being released due to his age, told police he discarded the weapon after the robbery, McMenamin said.
He was charged with armed robbery, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and aggravated assault with a weapon for pointing it at the victims during the robbery.
The teen was sent to Harborfields Juvenile Detention Center in Egg Harbor City.
