WHO ARE THEY: Jason Sosa is a 25-year old junior lightweight boxer from Camden who went pro in 2009 and since that time has a record of 11-1-3 with 7 knockouts. Sosa’s last six bouts have all been KOs. After being out of shape and suffering a first round knockout at the hands of Treysean Wiggins in 2010, Sosa took 13 months off and eventually teamed up with trainer Raul Rivas who helped change his approach and mindset, making him into an instant success when he stepped back in the ring.
Michael Brooks hails from Long Island, N.Y. and has a professional record of 10-1-1 with 2 KOs. His last fight was a loss to undefeated Karl Dargan in a 10-round decision in November 2013.
WHAT TO EXPECT: After having won his last six fights by way of knockout, junior lightweight Jason Sosa has momentum on his side as he faces Michael “Lefty” Brooks in a scheduled 10-round junior lightweight bout at Bally’s Atlantic City Saturday night. Brooks is hoping to rebound from a tough loss to Karl Dargan and doing so against an opponent like Sosa would be a huge step in the right direction. The Peltz Boxing event also features an exciting undercard. Thomas LaManna of Millville will take out Ahsandi Gibbs in an 8-round middleweight contest, while Anthony Burgin fights Frank Trader in a scheduled 6-round junior lightweight matchup. Other bouts include Atlantic City’s own Antowyan Aikens vs. Sherman Artis, David Williams vs. Dan Pasciolla of Brick and David Gonzales vs. Dominic Goode of Bridgeton. Middleweights Kyrone Davis and Rafael Machado will face off in a scheduled 4-round fight.
SHOW INFO: Tickets are $50 and $75, and the event begins 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at Bally’s.
