Motley Crue- Ahh the “farewell tour”. We have all seen this trick before and it goes something like this: Band boldly announces that at the end of their latest tour they will never perform live again only to turn around a few years later and quietly resume touring as if the whole thing had never happened. After you have seen this gag done 50 times, it starts to come off about as believable as that uncle who claims that he has “got your nose”. A sad modern rock star cliché. But in the case of Motley Crue, this time things seem a bit more convincing. Last week the band held a press conference in which they signed a legally binding “cessation of touring” contract with their attorney present. Sure, it could be a stunt, but the band seems adamant about never touring again, so when they show up at Borgata this time make sure to be there with as many friends as you can assemble to watch them go out with a bang! Oh, but when they inevitably embark on 2017’s “Screw the Contract” tour, try not to be too hard on them. Motley Crue, Borgata, Event Center, 7:30 p.m. Oct. 25. $99, $199.

Yakov Smirnoff- I’m wracking my brain here, but am really having trouble coming up with a celebrity higher up on the “what ever happened to that guy?” list than Yakov Smirnoff. For those of you poor souls too young to remember, Yakov Smirnoff was a Russian immigrant who managed to launch a career in stand-up comedy based almost solely on jokes about communist life and the differences between American and Soviet culture. After the fall of the Soviet Union his popularity took a serious nosedive and Smirnoff basically disappeared from the pop culture radar. Now in the process of crawling his way out of the wretched bowels of a relentless, brutal level of obscurity, Yakov will once again triumphantly take the stage at Trump Taj Mahal. Everybody loves a happy ending. Yakov Smirnoff, Trump Taj Mahal, Mark G. Etess Arena, 3:30 p.m. June 26. $35

Alice in Chains- It’s never easy for any band to come back after a member dies. If that member also happens to be an iconic lead singer, it’s all but impossible to pull off. For that reason alone it’s hard to have anything but the utmost respect for a band like Alice in Chains. It would have been easy to just walk away, but following the tragic death of former singer Layne Staley in 2002, the surviving members of this gang of grunge heavyweights recruited former Madfly singer William DuVall and officially began the process of picking up the pieces. On the heels of their most recent release, (2013’s “The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here”) this resilient foursome are once again hitting the road, and will be dropping in on Revel’s Ovation Hall on May 9th. Lace up your Doc Martens Gen Xers- this one is for you. Alice in Chains, Revel, Ovation Hall, 8 p.m. May 9. $49, $69.
