Born and raised in a family of long-established New Jersey boat designers and builders, artist Phyllis C. London has always managed to reflect her love of tall ships, sailboats and the Jersey Shore in her works.

Her newest exhibit, "18 Collected Images," opens to the public Monday, Oct. 1, in the upstairs gallery of Latz's By The Bay Restaurant in Somers Point.

The exhibit features watercolors, acrylics and giclee prints in the distinctive style that has earned the self-taught artist many awards and accolades throughout her career, which include extensive work as a freelance illustrator for publications and designers, staff illustrator for the Sands Hotel & Casino and the Trump Corporation for private commissions. Her work has appeared in New Jersey Monthly Magazine, New Jersey Lifestyle Magazine Atlantic City Magazine, Surfer Magazine and Hobie Hotline.

A Signature Artist member at the Noyes Museum in Galloway Township, London also had solo exhibits at the Accent Gallery in Ocean City, Great Bay Gallery in Somers Point, The Vineland Community Art Alliance and the Pavilion Gallery in Mt. Holly. She has contributed her work to many charities including Make a Wish Foundation, The Alcove Center for Grieving Children, The Bayshore Discovery Project, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Shore Medical Cancer Center and Gilda's Club of South Jersey.

A free artist reception will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 10, and the public is invited to meet London, chat about her works and enjoy light refreshments provided by Latz's By the Bay. Musical entertainment will be provided by the artist's husband, singer/songwriter Lew London.

The exhibit marks the one-year anniversary of the collaborative partnership between restaurant owner Andrew Latz and Kathleen Arleth, owner of Great Bay Gallery. Their intent is to increase the public's awareness of the work of local artists, to present space for local artists to exhibit, and to provide opportunities for diners to enjoy an artistic environment.

London's exhibit will continue through December.
