The Student Art Show of Pine Shores Art Association, the only opportunity to publicly view the works created by PSAA adult art students in workshops and classes held throughout the year, is on display through Feb. 26 in Stafford Township.

In existence for more than three decades in southern Ocean County, the Pine Shores Art Association offers 40 adult art classes in all mediums. More than 300 artists belong and take part in the year-round classes and visual art shows, and membership includes both new and established artists, professionals and amateurs. Unlike other PSAA group art shows that do not accept work done under the tutelage of an instructor, the Student Art Show showcases only the talents of the students.

For this show, longtime member Irene Bausmith, of Manahawkin, was awarded first prize for her pencil drawing entitled "Sarah." Bausmith created the work in a drawing class led by instructor and award-winning artist Tom Rutledge.

The top winners were made public at the show's opening reception on Feb. 4. The list includes a tie for second prize: Mary Schenone, for her pastel "Sacred River" (instructor Linda Coulter), and Paul Hartelius, for his watercolor "House of Seven Gables" (instructor Tom Rutledge); and third prize: Barbara Pylilo, for her watercolor "Central Park View" (instructor Carol Nace). Honorable mention was awarded to Peggy Mahan for her watercolor "Grand Canyon North Rim," also under Rutledge's instruction.

The PSAA gallery is located at 94 Stafford Ave., Manahawkin. The gallery is open to the public from 1 to 3 p.m. Sundays, 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays and 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Go to www.pineshoresartassociation.org
