After a January hiatus, the gallery at Latz's By the Bay Restaurant in Somers Point is exhibiting again, opening the season with "Spring is Just Around the Corner," by local artist Thelma Snyder.
Snyder's exhibit features original oils that include still life and scenes of markets and gardens. She also has included prints of her "Gates of Cape May" and "Doors of Old City, Philadelphia" series.
The public is invited to a reception to meet the artist from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the dining room gallery, located on the second level of the restaurant.
Snyder is well known locally and is active in the Ocean City Fine Arts League. She has gained recognition on the East Coast for her oil paintings and has won several awards in the New York area as well.
Snyder says she likes to use the technique of under-painting, first using either black or another atonal color on a white canvas and then later applying the color. The result produces colors that "come alive," she explains.
Snyder also has expanded her artistic talents to the culinary field, having co-authored six cookbooks for which she has won several awards. Her recipes have been published in major newspapers and magazines including Food and Wine, Cooks Illustrated, House Beautiful, Ladies Home Journal, Redbook and Self.
The exhibit continues the collaboration between Andrew Latz, owner of the restaurant, and Kathleen Arleth, owner of Great Bay Gallery in Somers Point. The two establishments partnered in an effort to increase the public's awareness of the work of local artists and to present space for local artists to exhibit.
The exhibit runs to April 30. Works are available for purchase. Latz's By the Bay Restaurant is located at 801 Bay Ave.
