The Ocean City Fine Arts League will celebrate what would have been founder Joe Kardonne's 100th birthday Saturday, Oct. 1, with a special exhibit at its gallery on Asbury Avenue.

The free event takes place 4 to 7 p.m.

Kardonne, a prominent local abstract artist who died in 2005, donated his artwork to the OCFAL. These paintings will be on display and for sale at a 50-percent discount that day, says current OCFAL President Rae Jaffe. The show also will honor the memory of co-founder James Penland, an avant-garde artist and arts entrepreneur who died in August. There will be a special display of Penland's work on site through Tuesday, Oct. 4.

This memorial celebration and tribute will include door prizes for all who attend, refreshments, a special birthday cake, prizes, games and storytelling contests.

The Ocean City Fine Arts League gallery is located at 608 Asbury Ave. Admission is free. For more information, call 609-814-0308 or www.oceancityfineartsleague.org
