South Jersey residents can view a collection of rare artwork by Surrealists Salvador Dali and Joan Miro when Ocean Galleries in Stone Harbor opens its limited-run exhibition Thursday, March 28, featuring the two Spanish masters.

"Poetic Visions: Dali and Miro" includes graphic works, lithographs, etchings and sculptures by the two artists, as well as works by other noteworthy visionaries such as Pablo Picasso.

The exhibition runs through April 6. The gallery will host special guest receptions 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30, and April 5 and 6.

Dali (1904-1989) and Miro (1893-1983) are considered two of the world's most revered and respected artists and top names in the Surrealist movement. The Surrealists, known for their new ways of thinking and seeing the world, looked to the unconscious mind and world of dreams to challenge the status quo ways of thinking with irrational, dreamlike, daring, and shocking art, says Kim Miller, owner of Ocean Galleries.

"This (exhibition) has been an exciting process ... both in learning more about the artists and their similarities, as well as of seeing the breathtaking, historic artwork we will be fortunate enough to have in our gallery for the show," Miller says.

While the show is free and open to the public, the exhibit also provides collectors with the opportunity to acquire artwork, Miller says. Ocean Galleries is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursdays through Mondays.

The exhibition will remain on display through May 19.

Ocean Galleries is located at 9618 Third Ave., in Stone Harbor. For more information call 609-368-7777 or go to OceanGalleries.com
