Beer Guy: Atlantic City emerging as a hot beer town

I am so proud that AC has become a much better beer town than many expected. Jon Henderson and crew put us on the map with the AC Beer and Music Fest and the AC Seafood Fest. Landry Inc, owners of Golden Nugget picked right up on it and will host their third annual event this month. Now Resorts has decided to enter the market and hold their 1st Annual Craft Beer Fest. Looks like we no longer have to travel too far for good beer events.

The Craft Beer Tasting will be happening at Golden Nugget on Saturday, Sept. 28. As they did last year, there will be a preview of the beers and foods on Friday night in the Bayview Room on The Deck from 8-12. No tickets are necessary for the preview as it is pay-as-you-go event. Also 7 p.m. Friday evening there will be a beer dinner hosted at Vic & Anthony’s highlighting the beers of Ommegang and pairing them with four courses of gourmet foods. One of the best restaurants in the AC area, this should be an excellent event. There will be a rep from Ommegang present to answer all your questions about this outstanding brewery and its beers. The price is $70 per person but seating is limited and reservations are necessary. Call 609-441-8355 to hold your place.

Lillies in Golden Nugget will also be pairing five sushi rolls with five seasonal craft beers on Friday and Saturday during regular business hours as an extra event for beer and sushi lovers.

Of course, the main event is Saturday evening in The Grand Ballroom — the Craft Beer Tasting! With almost 100 beers from 32 breweries from all over the US and gourmet foods from the GN culinary staff, this event is the best of its size in the area. This year, they are offering a VIP session which will allow you to enter an hour early at 7 p.m. and enjoy the offerings before the crowds get in and all for $59, only $10 more than general admission! Believe me, it is worth the extra money! Tickets are available at ticketmaster.com or at participating Joe Canal’s Liquor stores.

Some of the breweries attending the gala will be: Tuckahoe Brewing, NJ Beer Co, River Horse, Dogfish Head, Manayunk, Yards, Sly Fox, Troegs, Heavy Seas, Prism, Starr Hill, Goose Island, Ommegang, Great Lakes, Brooklyn, Smuttynose, Magic Hat, Firestone Walker, Port City and others. Not a better lineup to be found in this area.

Also on Saturday, Sept. 28, Resorts will be hosting its First Annual Beer Fest pouring over 90 craft beers and serving up “beer food” and live entertainment all for $25. The fest will run from 2-6 p.m. Some of the breweries in attendance will be Flying Fish, Flying Dog, Yards, Harpoon, Arcadia, Brooklyn, Terrapin and Stone. No better way to spend an afternoon! The lineup is another great one. Should be able to attend both of these! Tickets are available at WebTix.net or at the door.

Also, don’t miss the AC Seafood Fest on Sept. 14-15 at Bader Field. Not only will there be great food but once again this year there will be the Great Brews of NJ tent. You can get 10 tickets for $10 to sample the best that NJ breweries have to offer. Wine seminars are also being offered for $10 each. Check out AcSeafoodFest.com for more info. Hours for the event are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Keep the good beer flowing! Prosit!
