shot at Tropicana
If you were walking through the Tropicana Casino and Resort on Tuesday, you might have been treated to some welcome summer sights, as Hooters girls were posing for the company's internationally distributed calendar.
Bikini-clad Hooters girls from the tri-state area, as well as Florida, came to Atlantic City for the photo session, including Galloway Township's Tara McGaha, who works at the Hooters inside the Tropicana. McGaha also posed for calendar photos when she competed for Miss Hooters International on July 10 in Hollywood, Fla.
Jenna Folkk, regional director of marketing for Hooters, said seven Hooters models took photos inside The Quarter, as well as on the beach in front of the casino.
Calendar selection begins Monday to decide which photos will be used for specific months, as well as posters, the cover and smaller pictures that are inside the calendar that will be released in September.
"A girl from Atlantic City has had a month for the past six years, so we are expecting a month in the calendar, at least," says Folkk, who notes that the calendar, which retails for around $12, will feature 15 months beginning with October. "We have a very strong staff in this area of the country."
Folkk says it was amusing to see people's reactions to the photo shoot.
"It was a fantastic time," she says. "The Tropicana was so accommodating to allow us to shoot there, and the guests who stayed there woke up to some interesting sights as they went to get their morning coffee. It was great to see all of these people hanging over the balconies watching. It created a great buzz for the shoot on a Tuesday morning at the Tropicana."
Miss America 2010 Caressa Cameron was welcomed by Melting Pot owner Charles Haney, who hosted a fondue dinner in his Atlantic City restaurant for the 12 finalists of the Miss Dance USA pageant that was held last week. Haney and the Melting Pot have hosted the dinner for three years, hosting three different Miss America winners, as well.
After performing to a sold-out crowd in Resorts Atlantic City's Superstar Theater, country comedian Rodney Carrington showed his promotional side, playing in a blackjack tournament with radio winners from The Shark 103.7-FM and Marc Berman's "AC Plugged In" radio show on WOND 1400-AM. The tournament created a buzz on the casino floor, and eventual winner Dave Carmen of Estell Manor received an autographed guitar from Carrington. All of the participants received other Carrington merchandise.
Rapper Asher Roth, who released his debut album, "Asleep in the Bread Aisle," last year, performed a set at The Pool at Harrah's Resort last weekend.
Mario Lopez, of "Extra!" and MTV's "America's Best Dance Crew," had a boys' getaway at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, which was celebrating its seventh anniversary last weekend. Lopez was seen working out at Immersion Spa's Fitness Center, dining at Bobby Flay Steak and partying at mur.mur, where Lopez saw his friend, DJ Eric Cubeechee, who was spinning there for the night. The future daddy celebrated the upcoming birth of his baby with girlfriend Courtney Mazza with a delicious cake by Executive Pastry Chef Thaddeus DuBois. Lopez spoke to fans about his upcoming VH1 reality series that will debut this fall while he signed autographs and posed for pictures. The show will focus on Lopez and his girlfriend as they prepared for the birth of their first child.
