Resorts Atlantic City debuted two additions to its retail corridor for the holiday season last weekend with the Holiday Shop and the Celebrity Sports and Entertainment memorabilia store on the casino level.
Resorts Senior Vice President of Marketing Kathleen McSweeney said she hopes the additions will serve current customers while attracting new ones.
"This year, many holiday shoppers will focus on value, while many others will be driven by the desire to find a truly unique gift for that someone special. Our Holiday Shop and the Celebrity Sports & Entertainment store allow us to appeal to both markets," she said.
Celebrity Sports and Entertainment at Resorts features custom pieces of memorabilia from sports, movies, music, animation art and pop culture. Most pieces are autographed and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. They are framed and matted using preservation quality methods. Prices range from $20 to $2,200.
"We are very happy to bring Celebrity Sports and Entertainment to Resorts Atlantic City," said Store Manager John Stetz. "Customers have commented on the wide variety of items we have, ranging from (New York Yankees third baseman) Alex Rodriguez signed baseballs and bats to an autographed picture of Clayton Moore from 'The Lone Ranger' to signed movie scripts from the '30s and '40s. People are also intrigued by the lenticular art pieces. We have one of the Beatles' 'Abbey Road' that looks like they are actually moving across the street."
Some of the more interesting items are: a check signed by Thomas Edison and a lightbulb from his West Orange laboratory; an original Versace Dress worn by Beyonce Knowles in her "Crazy in Love" video; an elaborate shadowbox featuring The Rat Pack shooting pool with signatures from Frank Sinatra, Peter Lawford, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr.
The Holiday Shop offers gifts and merchandise at discount prices up to 40 percent off. The products include vacuums, coffeemakers, denim and leather jackets, digital photo frames, digital cameras, electric knives, phones, Boogie Nights 2010 calendars and more.
Celebrity Sports and Entertainment is open noon to 8 p.m. Thursdays, noon to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays. The Holiday Shop is open noon to 6 p.m. Thursdays, 2 to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.
Purchases can be made with cash and major credit cards. Comp dollars are not accepted at either store.
Trop Live Radio debuts
The Tropicana Casino and Resort and Planet Rose are teaming up to present a unique experience that will be a first in Atlantic City. Trop Live Radio, offered from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursdays to Saturdays, will be heard throughout The Quarter. The Trop and Planet Rose will use Trop Live Radio to promote everything that's happening at The Quarter, but customers will also be able to get in on the action, using the radio to "shout out" celebration messages to their friends.
Blackjack at Resorts
Resorts is hosting a $100,000 Blackjack Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 21. Although it's an invitational, one person can win a seat by playing in a qualifying tournament at Resorts on Friday, Nov. 21.
The qualifier will be held 6 to 10 p.m. Friday in the casino. Players will start with $25,000 in tournament chips and play head to head with the dealer for 10 hands. The player with the highest chip count at the end of the night goes directly to the final table on Saturday, going into the final with a one-in-seven chance of winning the $100,000.
To participate in the qualifier, go to Resorts Casino Club card services.
Celebrity sightings
Canadian model and Playboy Playmate Jayde Nicole, who also stars on "The Hills," hosted a part at Dusk at Caesars Atlantic City last weekend. Nicole drank Grey Goose vodka and shots of Jagermeister while dancing to the sounds of DJ Morse Code.
Former "American Idol" contestant Chris Daughtry performed at Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort last weekend. He held a meet and greet and posed for pictures with the Taj Mahal's dance troupe, the Angels.

The Atlantic City Chapter of the Chaine des Rotisseurs, the world's oldest and largest food and wine society, will host its 13th Beaujolais Nouveau Tasting 6:30 p.m. at Atlantic Cape Community College.
