Jay & the Americans in Ocean City
The popular 1960s pop group Jay and the Americans will come to the Ocean City Music Pier as part of the city's Monday night concert series 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19.
Known for hits like "Cara Mia" and "She Cried," Jay and the Americans had a string of Top 40 hits in the 1960s before disbanding in 1973. The group reunited a few years ago.
Bay-Atlantic Symphony performs
The Bay-Atlantic Symphony will bring Felix Mendelssohn's popular violin concerto and one of Ludwig van Beethoven best-known symphonies to life with concerts in both Avalon and Atlantic City this weekend.
The first, the final "Symphony By The Sea" concert, takes place at Avalon Elementary School 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17. The Avalon Free Public Library presents the concert series.
The second concert, at the Music Box at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, takes place on Sunday, Aug. 18, at 5 p.m.
Bay-Atlantic Symphony Music Director Jed Gaylin conducts both shows, which will feature popular violin soloist Stefan Jackiw. The concert will also include Beethoven's Symphony No. 8 in F major, Op. 93.
The Avalon concert is free with tickets available from the library. Avalon Elementary School is located at 235 32nd Street. Jersey Shore Pops: 'Sinatra & Friends'
Linda Gentille and The Jersey Shore Pops will continue their 2013 summer concert series with "Sinatra & Friends," starring Peter Oprisko, on Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Middle Township Performing Arts Center.
Oprisko, a well-known singer of Sinatra standards, performs the music of Sinatra and the Rat Pack with additional songs by Judy Garland. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
The Middle Township Performing Arts Center is located inside Middle Township High School, 212 Bayberry Drive in Cape May Court House. Individual tickets range from $25 for balcony seating to $40 for VIP orchestra center seating. The Middle Township PAC box office is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for walk-in ticket purchases.

Kaleem Shabazz tribute night
A cultural expressions concert and award ceremony honoring the work and community service of Kaleem Shabazz will take place Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Win San Center in Pleasantville.
Shabazz, a recipient of the Martin Luther King Award, The Fellowship of Churches of Atlantic City- Community Service Award and the Muslim Man of Year Award. He remains active in the community, serving as president of Masjid Muhammad of Atlantic City.
The concert will feature live jazz, poetry, The Universal African Dance and Drum Ensemble and more. The Win San Center is located at 325 S. New Road in Pleasantville. The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m.
