Chefs Association Golf Tournament

The Professional Chef's Association of South Jersey kicks off its 19th annual Scholarship Fundraiser Golf Tournament on Monday, Sept. 10, at the Greate Bay Country Club.

Registration for the tournament begins at 12:30 p.m. Shotgun start is at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $125 per person. All proceeds benefit Chef Scholarship Fund and are tax deductible. Prizes include a new car for a hole-in-one.

Hamburgers, hot dogs, pulled pork sandwiches, beer and water will be available.

A cocktail reception after the tournament is followed by a gourmet dinner buffet, awards ceremony and silent auction. Dinner is $25 per person.

Le Tour de Downbeach Bike Ride

Le Tour de Downbeach, a family-friendly fundraising bike ride, walk and barbecue on Absecon Island, will take place Sunday, Sept. 9 at 9:30 a.m.

Tomatoe's Restaurant, the Ventnor Merchants Association, the Margate Business Association, the Borough of Longport and Atlantic City sponsor the annual ride, the only one of its kind bringing all of the island's towns together. The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 16, also at 9:30 a.m.

Le Tour begins at 9:30 a.m. with registration and refreshments at the Boardwalk and Newport Avenue in Ventnor. Rides begin there at 10 a.m. and end at Tomatoe's at Amherst and Washington avenues in Margate for live music and a barbeque bash.

Participants will choose between a 14-mile ride, an 8-mile ride, and a two-mile fun walk, starting at Newport Avenue and the Boardwalk to Washington Avenue in Margate.

The registration fee for biking is $20 per person, or $12 each for a family of four or more. Walkers pay $12 per person. Fees include a T-shirt and refreshments.

Net proceeds benefit local charities. Helmets required.

Wildwood Tattoo Convention Returns

The third annual Wildwood Tattoo Convention and Show, presented by locally owned Rebel Image Tattoo and Villain Arts of Philadelphia, takes place Friday, Sept. 7, through Sunday, Sept. 9, inside the Wildwoods Convention Center.

The show boasts nationally-known tattoo artists, as well as contestants from "Ink Master" Season 2, Spike TV's hit tattoo competition reality show. Attractions include tattoo contests, a traveling tattoo museum, seminars and art exhibits.

The Tattoo Convention and Show runs from noon to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and from noon to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Daily passes cost $20. Weekend passes cost $40. Tickets will be available at the door.

The third annual Wildwood Tattoo Convention and Show coincides with the 17th annual Roar to the Shore Motorcycle Rally. Thousands of motorcycle enthusiasts are expected to migrate to the Wildwoods during the rally for a weekend of motorcycling vendors and demos, plus free live musical entertainment all weekend.

"Singing Lifeguard" Jim Craine at Middle PAC

For 38 years since a nun suggested he enter show business, former Atlantic City lifeguard Jim Craine has entertained on cruise ships, in Atlantic City casinos and, in its heyday, Steel Pier.

At 7:30 p.m., Friday, Craine and his Atlantic City All-Star Band will honor entertainers with New Jersey backgrounds, from Al Jolson to Neil Diamond, as part of Middle Township PAC's "Jersey Joys."

Craine, known locally as "The Singing Lifeguard," was a lifeguard in Atlantic City for 25 years before he retired in 1999. He has opened for The Platters, Frank Sinatra Jr., Della Reese and Connie Stevens. He also has worked with Sammy Davis Jr., Bob Hope and Red Skelton and has a talk show on WOND-AM 1400.
