Young actresses A role in a good movie early in life can give a girl who wants to act a leg up on her peers.

'Taxi Driver' (1976)

Jodie Foster was 12 years old, the same age as her character, Iris, when this classic was filmed. Iris is a prostitute that mentally unstable Vietnam War veteran and New York City nighttime taxi driver Travis Bickle (Robert De Niro) wants to save. Foster received a best supporting actress Oscar nomination for "Taxi Driver" and later won best actress Academy Awards for "The Accused" in 1988 and "The Silence of the Lambs" in 1991.

'The Piano' (1993)

Anna Paquin was 11 years old when her feature film acting debut was released. Paquin played 9-year-old Flora McGrath, the illegitimate daughter of Ada McGrath (Holly Hunter), a mute Scottish woman shipped off to a crude New Zealand settlement by her father to marry a man she never met. Paquin won the best supporting actress Oscar for her work in the film. Currently, she stars as Sookie Stackhouse in the HBO series "True Blood."

'Little Miss Sunshine' (2006), left

Abigail Breslin received a best supporting actress Oscar nomination for her role as Olive Hoover. Breslin was 10 when she played the slightly chubby, bespectacled 7-year-old fixated on winning the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant crown. Breslin will be seen next in the Cameron Diaz drama "My Sister's Keeper," scheduled for release on June 26.
