Romantic Women Starring in romantic comedies is one of the best ways for actresses to gain fame and acquire power in Hollywood.

Julia Roberts

In the early 1990s, Julia Roberts became well known after starring in "Pretty Woman." She also starred in other romantic comedies such as "My Best Friend's Wedding," "Mystic Pizza," "Notting Hill" and "Runaway Bride." Roberts, 41, used her success in the genre to become one of the highest-paid actresses in the film industry and the owner of a production company.

Meg Ryan, left

After starting her career on a soap opera, Meg Ryan, 47, starred in five romantic comedies during the late 1980s and 1990s - "When Harry Met Sally...," "Sleepless in Seattle," "I. Q.," "French Kiss" and "You've Got Mail." Ryan had a rare following of male and female fans. For a time, she was Hollywood's leading sweetheart.

Drew Barrymore

The youngest member of the Barrymore family of actors, Drew Barrymore, 34, was frequently cast in romantic comedies such as "The Wedding Singer" and "Home Fries," both in 1998. Barrymore's Flower Films production company developed several romantic comedies that she starred in including "Never Been Kissed," "50 First Dates" and "Music and Lyrics."
