Atlantic City Aquarium

Atlantic City Aquarium at Gardner's Basin displays fish, reptiles and amphibians, with diver shows, baby shark and ray feeding. Admission: $8 adults, $5 children. Call 609-348-2880.

Thursday and Friday, Dec. 30 and 31: Diver feeding show 11 a.m.; visitor feeding of juvenile sharks and rays noon and 3 p.m.; and exotic animal show 2 p.m.

Atlantic County Parks

Free nature classes for pre-schoolers 3 to 5 years from 10 to 11 a.m. or 1 to 2 p.m. Jan. 6 in Fox Nature Center at Atlantic County Park at Estell Manor, Route 50 south of Mays Landing; preregister.

Free course in orienteering -navigating the woods with topo map and compass - from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 8 at Atlantic County Park at Estell Manor. Must preregister by calling 609-645-5960.

Cape May

Bird Observatory

NJ Audubon's CMBO will reopen its Research & Education Center, 600 Route 47, Middle Township, Tuesday, Jan. 4, and its Northwood Center on Lily Lake in Cape May Point Sunday, Jan. 2. Call 609-861-0700.

Field trip to get a fast start on 2011 bird lists from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, starting at Cape May Point State Park; cost is $35; must preregister.

Nature Center

of Cape May

N.J. Audubon's Nature Center of Cape May, 1600 Delaware Ave., has exhibits and observation tower; admission is free. Call 609-898-8848.

Free guided harbor birding from the observation deck 10:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

Nature Conservancy

The Conservancy's Bayshores Center, 2350 Route 47, Delmont, has nature trails. Call 609-861-0600.

Outdoor Club of SJ

The Outdoor Club of South Jersey will lead a free 6-mile hike

10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 1, at the Atsion Forest Rangers Station, Route 206, Shamong.

The club also will lead an 8-mile hike for singles to Apple Pie Hill, the highest point in the Pine Barrens, 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, starting at the Carranza Memorial parking lot; bring picnic food to share; no children; no pets; preregister by calling Paul Serdiuk at 609-462-3593.

Wetlands Institute

Wetlands Institute, 1075 Stone Harbor Blvd., Stone Harbor, has an aquarium, displays and gift shop. Admission of $8 adults, $6 ages 3 to 12, includes activities. Call 609-368-1211.
