It's a great weekend to be in southern New Jersey. Whether you've got an ear for great rock 'n' roll, the shoes for an intense night of dancing, the pure excitement for a new Philadelphia Phillies baseball season or the need to mellow out with some smooth jazz, your needs will be met.

This weekend kicks off a brand new baseball season with high hopes for our neighboring champions, the Philadelphia Phillies. One of the best places in southern New Jersey to watch sports - and all Phillies games - is Chickie's and Pete's. On Sunday, April 5, the sports bar welcomes you to its all-day festival in honor of the Phillies' opening day. The fun begins at 2 p.m. and includes free giveaways, drink and beer specials on Bud, Bud Light and Landshark, and live entertainment by a Jimmy Buffett tribute act. As the game begins, so will more fun and excitement: Chickie's and Pete's plans to project the game on an outdoor 30-foot flatscreen while hot dogs, hamburgers and grilled chicken favorites get served up nice and hot. You shouldn't put any money down on the Phils making it to World Series again just yet, but you can certainly bank on having a blast at this one-of-a-kind sports party. Chickie's and Pete's is located at 6055 Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township and can be reached by phone at 609-272-1930.

Dante Hall presents a "3 Will Rock You" event - simply meaning that the three groups lined up to play will most certainly satisfy your rock craving. The opening acts are big enough to be headliners, with Qatsi and deardarkhead taking a backseat to QUEST, but no one group is mightier in talent than the other. Qatsi is known for its inventive twist on classic rock, while deardarkhead is famous for ethereal and experimental pop music. QUEST is comprised of five of the area's leading musicians, including Tom Hawk, Mike Maiorano, Donny Vosburg, Mark Duvall and Sam Trocki. This outtasite show starts at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 3, with an admission cost of $15. You can purchase tickets at the door or by calling Dante Hall at 609-344-8877. There is free parking on the premises for visitors. Dante Hall is located at 10 N. Mississippi Ave. in Atlantic City.

On the softer side of sounds rolling out of southern New Jersey this weekend, take in a jazz show or two with the Somers Point Jazz Society as it presents its Blue Moon Brewery Third Annual Winter Jazz Series. The double feature happens on Saturday, April 4, and is taking place at The Inlet, located at 998 Bay Ave., as well as Gregory's Restaurant, located at 900 Shore Road, both in Somers Point.

The Inlet features The Antfarm Quartet, a group that has graced our area before and definitely knows how to wow a crowd of jazz enthusiasts. The Antfarm Quartet is made up of Tim Lekan, Paul Jost, Jim Ridi and Bob Shomo. They start their set at 8 p.m. As for Gregory's, you can catch the Radam Schwartz Organ Quartet at 8:30 p.m. Schwartz is known throughout the music world for being a strong and innovative artist for more than 25 years and has played with Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Cecil Brooks III and Arthur and Red Prysock. Admission is free for Jazz Society Members, as well as high school and college students with valid I.D. For all others interested in attending, a $10 cover is required and gives you admission to both shows. For additional info, call The Inlet at 609-926-9611 or Gregory's at 609-927-6665.

Mur.mur, at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, is also heating things up this weekend and even into Monday night just for you. Catch DJ Eli Escobar on Friday at 10 p.m. for a wild set of dance track favorites and remixes to make you dance like crazy. As for Saturday night, DJ Chachi begs you to come cha-cha the night away. Mondays are usually non-fun-days, but never at mur.mur. On Monday, April 6, DiscoTech pulls out all the stops to make your night one to remember and one you'll want to relive every Monday, as well.

For more info on getting loose at mur.mur or other Borgata hot spots, call 609-317-1000.
