Band of the Week: Impulsive Decision
Whether you consider yourself impulsive or not, there's absolutely no need to second-guess a decision to see Impulsive Decision rock Hangar 84 in Vineland Saturday night.
Brian Murtaugh is a vocalist and frontman for the band. He and the other four members are from southern New Jersey and know their audiences well.
"Our shows, and the people at our shows, are full of energy," says Murtaugh. "We get our fans involved in any way possible. I can't count the number of times we've fallen, instruments have gotten unplugged or Josh's symbols just fall down.""
But Impulsive Decision isn't just about theatrics - it's music is solid. Though the band calls New Jersey home, it's no stranger to the stages of Philadelphia and New York City.
Impulsive Decision recently signed a record deal with Citation Records and has released a debut album "Far From Thru" which is getting plenty of radio play. The supercharged group was also pumped to sign an endorsement deal with Amp Energy
As far as it's sound, Rob Freeman, the producer of "Far From Thru," compares Impulsive Decision to Fuel.
"We've heard all kinds of things though, like Taking Back Sunday, Creed and Fall Out Boy," Murtaugh says. "We like to think we don't sound like them, or any band for that matter, but we are honored by the comparisons since they are such great bands."
Decide for yourself Saturday as Impulsive Decision plays at Hangar 84, 20 S. 6th St., Vineland. The show kicks off at 6 p.m. Call 856-692-6283.
What To Expect: An action-packed show with all original tunes. Well, maybe one cover. "The one song we cover is 'The Way' by Fastball," Murtaugh admits.
Album Info: Impulsive Decision's debut album is titled "Far From Thru." The single, "Last Call," is usually the band's opening number. Buy the album on Amazon, iTunes or at any of their shows.
Roster: Brian Murtaugh, vocals; Mike Dolan, guitar; Anthony Massi, guitar; Tommy MacFerren, bass; Josh Beckham, drums.
Musical Influences: Mark Tremonti, Adam Lazzara, Brad Nowell and Robert Plante.
Fun Fact: "Being in this band is not for the faint of heart," Murtaugh says. "We joke around - often at each others' expense - more than anybody should. We're our own worst critics."
