Mary Catherine DeMarco, a founding member of the Hammonton Arts Center, exhibits her latest multi-media works through October at the Hammonton Branch of the Atlantic County Library System.
A self-taught artist, DeMarco often combines photography, computer graphics and printmaking in her paintings.
“As an artist I go where the wind of inspiration leads me,” DeMarco states in her artist’s notes. “When I think of myself as an artist, I do not so much think of a particular media, but the fact that it is in my very soul to be creative. I can’t think of a time in my life that I was not expressing myself through written or visual media.”
Besides her career as an artist, DeMarco is also an art teacher and currently teaches Graphic Design, TV Production and Mass Media at Vineland High School.
Inspired by artists such as Wassily Kandinsky and Marc Chagall, DeMarco said many of her works are filled with images that she did not realize she was painting. She invites viewers to take a second look at her art, maybe by moving back a step or two from the canvas.
“You will not see everything there on your first glance,” she writes.
