The Pine Shores Art Association of southern Ocean County has named Marilyn Flagler as its January artist of the month. Her works in watercolor, pen and ink, oils and pastels will be on exhibit through Tuesday, Jan. 28.

Flagler’s career began with scientific sketching while earning a B.S. in Chemistry at Pennsylvania State University. She raised a family, worked at Smith, Kline and French, and pursued an 18 year real estate career in Summit before retiring to the Long Beach Island area.

Flagler said Long Beach Island has always been a major infleunce in her life. Her parents and in-laws owned property there and moving to southern Ocean County seemed a natural choice.

She joined PSAA in 2007 and is a board member. She also maintains memberships in the Ocean County Artists Guild and the Garden State Watercolor Society. Flagler won a blue ribbon in the 2012 Ocean County Senior show, and earned a second place in watercolor this year. In PSAA’s Fall Show she received the Representational prize and previously won a Student Show award.

In addition to watercolor and pen and ink drawings, Flagler recently starting working in oils and pastels.

The PSAA gallery is located at 94 Stafford Ave., Manahawkin.
