Great Bay Gallery in Somers Point opens its 2013 season with "Figure and Form," an exhibit of works by award-winning artist Rachel Smith.
Gallery owner Kathleen Arleth calls Smith an up-and-coming talent with a great sense of creativity. The exhibit includes paintings in oils and acrylics and sculpture in ceramic, clay and wood. Smith's subjects include still life and the human figure, local landscapes, as well as functional three-dimensional objects, Arleth says.
A 2011 graduate of Marywood University in Scranton, Pa., Smith resides in Egg Harbor Township and has experience working in a variety of media.
"My creative process is both planned and intuitive, starting with an idea, problem solving along the way, conveying feelings of movement and growth while developing both artistically and personally," Smith wrote in her artist's notes for the exhibit.
"I find beauty in a rusty nail as well as in a blossoming tree and everything in between," she says.
