Artist Christine Lockwood McPartland sometimes surprises herself when she completes a painting and realizes it didn't turn out as expected.
"Sometimes, the finished work is far from what I imagined it to be, and that's the fun of it," McPartland says. "I find painting is a way of expression that comes from deep inside; color, light and dark, and texture all come together right before your eyes."
McPartland's paintings are currently on exhibit at the Ocean City Arts Center through Jan. 31. A reception to meet the artist will be held 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13.
A painter for more than two decades, McPartland works mainly in pastels, watercolor and acrylics. She works from her Ocean City studio and paints with fellow artists at the Lance Balderson studio in Seaville.
Ocean City Arts Center Executive Director Rosalyn Lifshin said McPartland's paintings have been selected for three years to be a part of the center's juried art show and also do well in the themed shows.
The Ocean City Arts Center is located at 1735 Simpson Ave. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information call 609-399-7628 or go to www.oceancityartscenter.org.
