Pop-opera superstar Josh Groban performed there early in his career, while singer Michael Buble started in the smaller Music Box before graduating to its main stage Event Center. The Borgata continues to bring in newer talent, such as this summer's The Wanted and Imagine Dragons.

Asked to pick his favorite acts, Lupo can't stop naming names: Pearl Jam, Stevie Wonder, Jay-Z, Clapton, Rihanna, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jerry Seinfeld, Robin Williams, Tom Petty, Billy Joel ... the list goes on.

The key for Borgata is appealing to the 35- to 55-year-old demographic that wants to pair a show with dinner, a spa treatment and a hotel stay, as well as the younger, partying crowd.

The festivities continue Thursday, July 4, with a fireworks "spectacular" at 9 p.m.; Jackson Browne at 8 p.m. Friday, July 5, and Saturday, July 6, at the Event Center; Whitney Cummings at 9 p.m. Saturday, July 6, at The Music Box; and the Bay-Atlantic Symphony 5 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at The Music Box.
