Somers Point Jazz Master Award Performance

The Somers Point Jazz Society will be recognizing acclaimed tenor saxophone player Michael Pedicin as the 2014 George Mesterhazy Jazz Master Award recipient 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Clancy’s by the Bay in Somers Point.

Pedicin, the former head of jazz studies at Temple University, has played with jazz greats including Dave Brubeck, Maynard Ferguson, Stanley Clarke, Pat Martino and Terence Blanchard. He currently leads the jazz education program at The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey.

Pedicin recently released his latest album “Why Stop Now/Ubuntu.”

The award ceremony and reception will take place at Clancy’s by the Bay, Maryland and Sunny avenues in Somers Point. Following the ceremony, there will be a jazz performance featuring the Peabody Conservatory Jazz Band from Baltimore.

Teddy Royal at Jersey Shore Jazz Vespers Concert

Guitarist and composer Theodore “Teddy” Royal will perform at the upcoming Jersey Shore Jazz Vespers 4 p.m. Sunday, April 20, at Asbury United Methodist Church in Atlantic City.

Royal continues to work in the Philadelphia area, as well as South Jersey. He was featured at the Cape May Jazz Festival playing a tribute to Wes Montgomery. Royal will be joined by Dan Kostelnik on organ and Gregory McDonald on drums. The concert is free, and refreshments will follow the performance.

Hammonton Wine and Beer Expo

The Greater Hammonton Chamber of Commerce will present its 6th Annual International Wine & Beer Expo 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, at Tomasello’s Winery, Route 30 in Hammonton.

This unique event features wine from WineWorks, beer and ale from Kramer Beverage, an assortment of imported cheese from Bagliani’s Market, pastries from Sassy Sweets, carving and pasta stations, plus live music. To add to the festivities, a silent auction will be conducted by MainStreet Hammonton.

Hammonton Boutique Week

Boutique Week, a week of specials and sales in Downtown Hammonton, will run Monday, April 21, through Saturday, April 26.

Beginning on April 21, participating retail shops will offer specials every day. The week concludes on Saturday, April 26, with a Wrap Up Party, complete with music, sidewalk specials, giveaways and chances to win prizes.

Pet Fashion Show in OC

Bring out Fido and Fluffy’s best outfits and accessories — the Woofin Paws Pet Fashion Show will take place Saturday, April 19, at Carey Stadium in Ocean City.

Categories include Best Dressed, Bonnet, Intelligent Pet Tricks, Bathing Suit, Owner/Pet Look-Alike, and Super Hero Costume. There is a $5 donation per pet that benefits the Ocean City Humane Society.

Carey Stadium is located at 6th Street off the Boardwalk. Registration begins at 10 a.m. The competition is open to any pet that can behave well around other animals, including dogs, cats, bunnies, ferrets, guinea pigs and turtles.
