Mother’s Day is about much more than a nice brunch or some flowers. Many area organizations are hosting charity events in honor of breast cancer survivors, women’s forums and unique events such as wine trails and lighthouse climbs that can be fun for the entire family.
Below are some events taking place next week in South Jersey.
Shirley Mae Run, Michael J. Walk returns to A.C.
More than 250 breast cancer survivors will gather Saturday, May 10, for the 12th annual Shirley Mae Run & Michael J. Walk benefiting the Shirley Mae Breast Cancer Assistance Fund and the Michael J. Neustadter Pancreatic Cancer Fund .
The event will kick off with a breast cancer survivors’ wave and bell ringing celebration, led by Shirley Mae Goldberg, on the balcony of Fin Restaurant at the Tropicana Casino and Resort, followed by a survivor breakfast. More than 2,500 participants and spectators will gather on the boardwalk for the run and walk, followed by the “Kids Fun Run” sponsored by Island Gym.
Registration fees for the 5K Run are $30 in advance and $35 day of event. The fee for entering the 1.5-mile walk is $25 advance and $30 day of event. Reduced entry fees are $20 for students 18 and under and $15 for children under 12.
Free self-parking is available until 11:30 a.m. at the Tropicana. During the event, attendees can receive free health screenings, free food and refreshments and family-friendly activities. KOOL 98.3-FM’s Jerry “The Geator” Blavat will host a live version of his Geator Dance Party on the Atlantic City Boardwalk in celebration of Shirley Mae.

Dolvett Quince to Address 21st Women’s Forum
Dolvett Quince, from NBC’s “The Biggest Loser,” will be the guest speaker for the 21st Women’s Forum benefiting the Greater Atlantic City Charities and The First Tee Drive Program, on Tuesday, May 13, at Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City.
As a veteran health and fitness expert and one of the trainers on “The Biggest Loser,” Quince has dedicated himself to “helping people change their lives, one rep at a time.”
The Women’s Forum benefits the Greater Atlantic City Charities and The First Tee Drive Program, which is a nonprofit, youth development organization that introduces youngsters to the game of golf, and in the process, provides valuable life skills training.

Cape May Wine Trail Event
Spend the day visiting Cape May County’s wineries and sampling the unique flavors of each on Saturday, May 10, with a special wine trail event.
Begin with lunch at the Carriage House Café & Tearoom at the Physick Estate, then board the trolley to Willow Creek Winery, Hawk Haven Vineyard & Winery and Natali Vineyards. The $75 cost includes lunch, wine tastings at each vineyard and a wine tasting glass. The event takes place from noon to 5 p.m.

Cape Lighthouse Music Event, Full Moon Climb
Help celebrate the 1859 Cape May Lighthouse with live music on the grounds 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 10.
Now digitally remastered, Geno White’s “Music From Inside the Lighthouse,” recorded inside the lighthouse more than 20 years ago, will be heard live on the grounds, along with lighthouse-themed entertainment and an opportunity to climb the 199 steps to the top. Saturday events on the grounds are free. Cost to climb is $8 for adults and $3 for children ages 3 to 12.
Take advantage of the light of the full moon on Wednesday, May 14, and let it guide you up the stairs to the top of the Cape May Lighthouse for a special climb event organized by Friends of the Cape May Lighthouse.
The climb will take place from 8 to 10 p.m., with free admission for “friends” members. Admission for nonmembers is $8 for adults and $3 for children ages 3 to 12.
