Bert Nievera and Martin Nievera: A Christmas Concert at Tropicana

WHO ARE THEY: Singer Martin Nievera grew up with music all around him as the son of Society of Seven singer Bert Nievera, so he was more than ready for the big time when he released his first album, “Martin ... Take One,” in 1982. The album was a platinum-selling success and cemented Nievera’s status as a star right out of the gate. He also began to branch out right away, co-hosting the TV show “Penthouse Live!” along with his future wife Pops Fernandez. Over the years Nievera has appeared in numerous films and television shows in addition to continuing to release albums. After his marriage failed, he wrote and recorded music specifically for the purpose of winning back his wife. The albums were eventually released as “Forever,” “Forever Forever” and “Return to Forever.” In 2012 Nievera became a judge on “The X Factor Philippines.”

WHAT TO EXPECT: Nievera has been entertaining audiences for more than 25 years with his relaxed, crooning vocal style and affable personality. A truly international star, Nievera was raised in Hawaii, returned to the Philippines and went on to tour throughout the United States, Canada, the Middle East and Guam. On Saturday night he teams up with his father Bert Nievera, former singer with Society of Seven, for a special Christmas concert. WHO ARE THEY: Legends in Concert began in Las Vegas in the 1980s and has been running strong ever since as the world’s most successful tribute show. The show has been so successful in fact that Bally’s Atlantic City renovated the Palace Theater and renamed it Legends in Concert Theater in order to host the show on an ongoing basis long term. It features new seats, more booths and cocktail tables and walls of memorabilia. The show will present five different lineups of entertainers throughout the year.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Fall is here, and with it comes a brand-new Legends in Concert lineup. The current cast includes tributes to Michael Jackson, Liza Minnelli, Justin Timberlake and Elvis Presley. A live orchestra and dancers back the impersonators who are dead ringers for the artists they portray. Legends in Concert has been a hit for more than 30 years and continues to delight audiences.

WHAT IS IT: The Tropicana Holiday Extravaganza is a lavish yuletide production featuring two singers, 10 dancers, hundreds of costumes and elaborate set designs. The show features a good mixture of the classic Christmas songs everyone knows and loves along with more modern tunes.

WHO IS HE: Joe Holiday is a magician who takes a family-friendly approach to magic and entertainment. The Atlantic City native has performed around the world on cruise ships, at amusement parks and corporate events and has even performed for the U.S. military in China, South Korea and Japan.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Those looking for a show that the whole family can enjoy will want to check out Joe Holiday at the Comedy Stop. Holiday amazes audiences with sleight of hand and stage magic tricks and creates a fun-filled atmosphere that engages children and lets them participate in the show. “We welcome Joe Holiday to the Comedy Stop family,” Comedy Stop owner and producer Bob Kephart says in a statement. “We hope everyone will stop in to take a holiday with Holiday.” The magician, who is an Atlantic City native and South Jersey resident, is excited about the opportunity to perform in his hometown after years on the road. “It’s both an honor and thrill to bring the only family-friendly magic act in Atlantic City to the Comedy Stop this summer,” Holiday says. “After traveling the world to entertain our troops and audiences in other countries for nearly 30 years, it will be great to come back to Atlantic City to entertain the hometown crowd and help the legendary comedy club celebrate their 30 years in the business.”

of a Murder

WHAT IS IT: “A Dickens of a Murder” is produced by Without a Cue Productions and is written and directed by Traci Connaughton. The murder mystery show is an interactive, audience participation experience that brings together two legendary fictional characters in Ebeneezer Scrooge and Sherlock Holmes. Dinner is included in the price of admission.

WHAT TO EXPECT: Tired of the same old sappy, predictable holiday shows? This season Resorts Casino Hotel offers a fun alternative with “A Dickens of a Murder,” a dinner theater production that combines murder, mystery and intrigue with a yuletide setting and classic characters from modern fiction. The plot of the story takes place after the events of “A Christmas Carol” with Ebenezer Scrooge a changed man. But when he doesn’t show up to a Christmas party and is found dead, audience members get to assist none other than Sherlock Holmes, who is on the case determined to find the murderer.
