‘Chowderfest’ in LBI

This weekend marks the silver anniversary for all things chowder in Long Beach Island.

Chowderfest, right, this time celebrating 25 years of chowder cook-offs and family fun, will return to Taylor Avenue ball field on Sunday, Oct. 6. Visitors can enjoy a day full of unlimited chowder tasting, live music, children’s entertainment and a food court.

The event will take place rain or shine at the Taylor Avenue ball field, located at Ninth Street and Taylor Avenue in Beach Haven (across from Schooner’s Wharf and Bay Village), from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year the ball field will be renamed after long time Chowderfest chairman and past Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce President Frank Panzone. Ticket holders have the opportunity to vote for their favorite chowder. On Saturday, Oct. 5, visitors can also shop the Merchant Mart, where nearly 100 specialty vendors offer the best deals of the season from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Merchant Mart will also feature live entertainment, costumed characters, clowns and face painting, and “Chowder-wear” merchandise and tickets for Sunday’s cook-off will be available.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 4 to 12. VIP tickets, which include 10 a.m. admission and a tasters T-shirt, are $50. Seafood and Music festival in Wildwood this weekend

Enjoy crabs, oysters and everything in between this weekend with the Greater Wildwood Chamber of Commerce Seafood and Music Festival, a free street fair taking place 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, in Wildwood.

The daylong event takes place on Atlantic Avenue between Wildwood and Schellenger avenues. The festival will feature live music, crafters, food vendors, a pie-eating contest and a “Kids Korner,” filled with activities including pumpkin painting, face painting and bounce houses from noon to 4 p.m.

Two stages of free entertainment will feature Frank Bey & The Swing City Blues Band, Green River (a Creedance Clearwater Revival tribute band), The Who Knows Band (The Who tribute band) and the Rocktologists.

John Lynch honored at Cape Assist ‘Endless Summer’ benefit

Enjoy food, music and a silent auction to support Cape May County families during Cape Assist’s “Endless Summer” fundraising dinner, taking place 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Windrift Resort in Avalon.

Cape Assist will honor John Lynch with the Partner in Prevention Community Award for his dedication and many ongoing contributions to the children of the community. The Lunch with Lynch Foundation is a non-profit, charitable entity that is partnered with the Cape May County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge No. 7. The organization’s mission is to facilitate learning experiences for the children of the Wildwoods through educational opportunities.

Cape Assist is dedicated to preventing and treating substance abuse and related issues in Cape May County through education, advocacy, counseling and community collaboration. The organization offers prevention programs and services to schools, businesses, organizations, families and individuals.
