The former St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Hammonton had been sitting vacant for years — a massive space moldering away under the effects of disuse. Now, however, the peaked building has been patched up and rebranded as Kathedral Events Center.
A high-end performing arts center, the 16,000 square-foot venue will hold its grand opening 8 p.m. Saturday, March 25, with a performance by the U2 tribute band Unforgettable Fire. Kathedral recently held a soft open with singer/songwriter Camille Peruto, a former contestant on American Idol. Unforgettable Fire’s performance will usher in a new era for the repurposed building.

Hammonton Mayor Steve DiDonato will also hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony to commemorate the opening before the performance
“We want people to be blown away,” says Andrew Rivenbark, managing director of Kathedral. “The people who have nothing but fond memories of the building will find that we have done our best to keep a lot of the contemporary appeal. We’ve just added a splash of modern to our production.”
