Landis Marketplace Gala Celebration

Landis MarketPlace, downtown Vineland's public market, will mark its first anniversary with a three-day gala celebration starting Thursday, May 31, that will include food, live music, giveaways and specials throughout the market.

The celebration at the market, located at 631 E. Landis Ave., will take place rain or shine through Saturday, June 2. Outdoor activities, including a pig roast with fresh pork sandwiches and a New Orleans-style seafood boil, will be held on the Landis Avenue side of the market. Indoor activities will take place throughout the market.

Saturday, "Family Fun Day," will include live music by the traditional Celtic band, Towheads, and the Rich Favretto Bluegrass Band.

Multi-Cultural Heritage Festival in Atlantic City

The first Atlantic City Multi-Cultural Heritage Festival will take place Friday, June 1, through Sunday, June 3.

The Tom Joyner Morning Show, a syndicated morning talk-radio program, will broadcast live from 6 to 11 a.m. at Surf Stadium to kick off the three-day festival. Other events include a daylong "Beach Bash" Saturday on Missouri Avenue beach, an all-day "old school" summer concert Saturday in Gardner's Basin, as well as "jazz in the garden" all day Sunday at Garden Pier and Kennedy Plaza.

Resorts Casino Hotel also will host an All-Star Boxing Legends Gala 9 p.m. Saturday that is expected to feature Mike Tyson (See interview on Page 8), Emmanuel Steward and Larry Hazzard. High-profile performers such as Ashanti, who is Atlantic City Mayor Lorenzo Langford's goddaughter, are expected to participate in an R&B tribute taking place 9 p.m. Friday at One Atlantic.

Cape May Music Festival continues with tribute to George Mesterhazy

The June 3 Cape May Music Festival concert, originally featuring Cape May jazz pianist George Mesterhazy, will continue on as a tribute to Mesterhazy, above, who died April 12 from natural causes.

Barry Miles will direct the tribute show, assisted by Tim Lekan. The concert will feature Paula Johns, Joe Barrett, Paul Jost and Bob Shomo, with special guest, Afro-Cuban percussionist Babatunde Lea. The concert is scheduled for 8 p.m. Sunday, June 3 at the new Cape May Convention Hall, located at Beach Avenue and Stockton.

The 23rd Annual Cape May Music Festival began May 28 and runs through Thursday, June 14. Sunday's concert is part of the festival's "world traditions" series, which includes music from the Irish, jazz, brass band, and Afro-Cuban traditions.
