The 14th annual Brigantine Polar Plunge takes place 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1, at the 14th Street South beach.

Brigantine Polar Plunge at 11 a.m.

The 14th annual Brigantine Polar Bear Plunge, a fundraising effort benefiting Fisher House, kicks off at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at the 14th Street South beach.

Participants are encouraged to wear costumes with prizes awarded.

The noon swim is followed by a post-plunge party at the Laguna Grill, located at 1400 Ocean Ave., which will feature special food and drink pricing for the event. The Mott’s Creek Pickers will provide live entertainment.

Fisher House provides housing and transportation to wounded military members and their families. Last year’s event brought out over 1,000 swimmers, 9,000 spectators and raised over $40,000 for Fisher House. The 2014 goal is $50,000.

Atlantic City Polar Plunge at noon

The Atlantic City Polar Bears will make their 23rd annual plunge into the Atlantic City Ocean in front of Resorts Casino in Atlantic City at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Each person who jumps into the chilly ocean will receive a Commemorative Finishers Certificate.

The Atlantic City Polar Bears encourages its members to make a donation to this years’ charity, Multiple Sclerosis Association of America, or MSAA. MSAA is a national organization dedicated to enriching the quality of life for everyone affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS). T-shirts will also be for sale, with proceeds benefitting MSAA.

Margate Polar Plunge at noon

The annual Margate Polar Bear Plunge will take place at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 1at the Essex Avenue beach. Sweatshirts and T-shirts will be sold in front of Robert’s Place, 7807 Atlantic Avenue, commemorating the event.

Ventnor Polar Plunge at 1 p.m.

The Ventnor Polar Bear Plunge will kick off 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1 at Newport Avenue beach. It will be followed by the annual Chili Cook-off in the community room of the Ventnor Library and Cultural Arts Center. T-shirts will be available for sale commemorating the plunge and spectators are encouraged to attend.
