Brigantine Polar Plunge

The 13th annual Brigantine Polar Bear Plunge, above, a fundraising effort benefitting Fisher House, kicks off 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, at a new location - the 14th Street South beach.

The plunge, free and open to the public, has become a popular tradition with both locals and visitors to Brigantine. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes with prizes awarded. Jim Craine, Atlantic City's singing lifeguard, will again serve as master of ceremonies.

The noon swim is followed by a post-plunge party at the Laguna Grill, 1400 Ocean Ave., which will feature special food and drink pricing for the event. The Mott's Creek Pickers will provide live entertainment.

Fisher House provides housing and transportation to wounded military members and their families. Last year's event brought out more than 1,000 swimmers, 9,000 spectators and raised more than $47,000 for Fisher House. The 2013 goal is $60,000.

Ventnor Polar Plunge

The Ventnor Polar Bear Plunge will kick off 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, at Newport Avenue beach. It will be followed by the annual Chili Cook-off in the community room of the Ventnor Library and Cultural Arts Center. T-shirts will be available for sale commemorating the plunge and spectators are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 609-487-0808.

Margate Polar Plunge

The annual Margate Polar Bear Plunge will take place noon Tuesday, Jan. 1, at the Essex Avenue beach. Sweatshirts and T-shirts will be sold in front of Robert's Place, 7807 Atlantic Ave., commemorating the event. For more information, call 609-823-5050.

'Trout Fishing in America' at Levoy Theatre

The award-winning duo Trout Fishing in America, see photo, comes to the Levoy Theatre 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30.

This is the long-standing, four-time Grammy-nominated musical partnership of Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet, based on passionate images of family life. Tickets are $18 for adults, $15 for students and seniors 62 and over.
