Brigantine Polar Plunge
The 13th annual Brigantine Polar Bear Plunge, above, a fundraising effort benefitting Fisher House, kicks off 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1, at a new location - the 14th Street South beach.
The plunge, free and open to the public, has become a popular tradition with both locals and visitors to Brigantine. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes with prizes awarded. Jim Craine, Atlantic City's singing lifeguard, will again serve as master of ceremonies.
The noon swim is followed by a post-plunge party at the Laguna Grill, 1400 Ocean Ave., which will feature special food and drink pricing for the event. The Mott's Creek Pickers will provide live entertainment.
Fisher House provides housing and transportation to wounded military members and their families. Last year's event brought out more than 1,000 swimmers, 9,000 spectators and raised more than $47,000 for Fisher House. The 2013 goal is $60,000.
